Councilor's son arrested for hitting 70-year-old woman in Kolkata

Suddhasatwa Bandyopadhyay, son of Mitali Bandyopadhyay, the councilor for ward number 99 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, has been arrested by Rabindra Sarobar police on charges of negligent driving. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon near Vivekananda Park, when Bandyopadhyay allegedly struck a 70-year-old woman named Saha as she was crossing the road. Following the accident, the woman was immediately transported to SSKM Hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the collision.

Rabindra Sarobar police have registered a non-bailable case against Bandyopadhyay under Section 279 (rash driving), Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police sources confirmed that a detailed investigation is ongoing, including the review of available traffic surveillance footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the incident.
